The United States has conducted fresh military strikes on Iranian sites, marking the latest escalation in the fragile standoff between the two nations.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, coastal radar sites, and other military infrastructure along the Strait of Hormuz and on Qeshm Island.
The strikes were carried out in direct response to an Iranian drone attack on a Singapore-flagged commercial vessel, M/V Ever Lovely, on June 25. President Donald Trump described Iran’s action as a “foolish violation” of a recently agreed ceasefire.
Key Details:
- The U.S. strikes were described as “limited but powerful” and focused on degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the vital Strait of Hormuz.
- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has vowed retaliation, with reports of subsequent attacks on U.S. military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain.
- This marks the second round of U.S. strikes on Iranian territory in recent weeks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
A senior U.S. official stated that the operation was “necessary to protect freedom of navigation” in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
The developments come as diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region remain ongoing but face significant challenges. Both sides have accused each other of undermining the fragile truce.
