Deadly Russian Strikes Hammer Kyiv Ahead of Trump’s NATO Summit Trip

Kyiv, Ukraine – Russia launched a fresh wave of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing several civilians and injuring dozens more, just hours before U.S. President Donald Trump was scheduled to depart for a high-stakes NATO summit.

According to Ukrainian officials, residential neighborhoods, commercial buildings, and critical infrastructure were among the targets struck during the overnight bombardment. Emergency responders worked through the rubble to rescue trapped residents as fires engulfed several buildings across the city.

Ukraine’s Air Force said it intercepted many of the incoming drones and missiles, but several penetrated the country’s air defenses, causing widespread destruction. Authorities described the attack as one of the most intense assaults on Kyiv in recent weeks.

President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strikes, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting civilians to spread fear and undermine Ukraine’s resolve. He renewed calls for additional air defense systems and stronger military support from Western allies.

The attacks come at a crucial moment as NATO leaders prepare to meet to discuss continued military assistance for Ukraine and broader European security. Analysts believe the renewed bombardment is intended to send a political message ahead of the summit.

World leaders have condemned the attacks, expressing solidarity with Ukraine while urging increased diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
