Mbappé and Dembélé Fire France Into FIFA World Cup Semi-Finals

France booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after a commanding 2-0 victory over Morocco, with superstars Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé finding the net to end the Atlas Lions’ impressive tournament run.

After a tightly contested first half, France eventually broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when captain Kylian Mbappé produced a moment of brilliance, curling a superb finish beyond Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. The goal marked another milestone for the French captain, who continues to strengthen his case for the tournament’s Golden Boot.

Just six minutes later, France doubled their advantage as Ousmane Dembélé capitalized on space created by Mbappé to slot home the second goal, putting Didier Deschamps’ side firmly in control of the quarter-final encounter.

Morocco, carrying the hopes of Africa, fought with determination but struggled to break down France’s disciplined defence. Despite showing resilience throughout the tournament, the Atlas Lions were unable to create enough clear-cut opportunities and failed to mount a successful comeback against one of the competition’s favourites.

The victory sends France into a third consecutive FIFA World Cup semi-final, underlining their consistency on the global stage. Les Bleus have also kept clean sheets in each of their knockout matches, highlighting their balance in both attack and defence.

France will now face the winner of the Spain vs. Belgium quarter-final for a place in the World Cup final, while Morocco exit the tournament with their heads held high after another memorable campaign that inspired football fans across Africa and beyond.

Speaking after the match, France coach Didier Deschamps praised his team’s discipline and resilience, while Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi acknowledged France’s quality and expressed pride in his players’ achievements throughout the tournament.

Although Morocco’s dream has come to an end, their spirited performances have once again showcased the growing strength of African football on the world stage.
