EOCO Probes Alleged GH¢55 Million Misappropriation at IMCCoD

he Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has launched an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of GH¢55 million at the Institute of Museum and Cultural Conservation Development (IMCCoD), in what could become one of the latest high-profile public sector financial crime investigations.

According to reports, EOCO is examining allegations that the funds were improperly managed or diverted, prompting the anti-graft agency to commence inquiries into the institute’s financial transactions and administrative practices.

Investigators are expected to scrutinize financial records, procurement documents and payment approvals as part of efforts to determine whether any criminal offences, including embezzlement, fraud or abuse of office, were committed.

EOCO has indicated that the investigation forms part of its broader mandate to combat economic and organized crime, promote accountability and safeguard public resources.

Although details of the alleged financial irregularities remain limited, officials familiar with the case say several current and former officials of the institute may be invited to assist with investigations.

The agency has assured the public that the probe will be conducted independently and professionally, with any individuals found culpable facing the full rigors of the law.

The alleged GH¢55 million misappropriation has reignited concerns over financial management and accountability within public institutions, with governance experts calling for stronger internal controls and regular audits to prevent the misuse of state funds.

Anti-corruption advocates have welcomed EOCO’s intervention, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening transparency and restoring public confidence in the management of public finances.

The investigation remains ongoing, and EOCO is expected to provide further updates as inquiries progress.
