Nii Lantey Vanderpuye Resigns as DRIP Coordinator to Pursue NDC Executive Position

Former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio Constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has officially resigned from his position as National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to contest for a national executive position in the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr. Vanderpuye, a well-known and influential figure within the NDC, announced his resignation in a statement on Monday. He thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve in the position and expressed his desire to contribute more directly to strengthening the party’s internal structures.

Background

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye served as the National Coordinator of DRIP, a government initiative aimed at improving road infrastructure in districts across the country. Prior to that, he was a two-time Member of Parliament for the Odododiodio constituency and has remained a vocal and active member of the NDC.

His decision to step down comes ahead of the NDC’s upcoming national executive elections, where several key positions are expected to be contested.

Reason for Resignation

In his resignation letter, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye indicated that he wants to focus fully on party work and offer himself for a national leadership role within the NDC. He believes his experience and grassroots connections will enable him to contribute meaningfully to the party’s reorganization and preparations toward the 2028 general elections.

A close associate of the former MP stated:

“Nii Lantey has always been a dedicated party man. He believes he can serve the NDC better in a national executive position at this critical time.”

Implications

His resignation is seen as a strategic move by political observers. It signals growing internal competition within the NDC as seasoned politicians position themselves for leadership roles ahead of the party’s congress.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is believed to be eyeing one of the key national positions — possibly National Organizer or a similar influential role. His vast experience in both government and party politics makes him a strong contender.

The Presidency is yet to announce a replacement for the DRIP Coordinator position.
