Managing Director of Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, Dr. Benjamin Dzoboku, has underscored the critical role of research in shaping national development, describing evidence-based research as the most effective tool for solving Ghana’s social and economic challenges.
Speaking at an academic conference in Accra, Dr. Dzoboku stressed that sustainable development policies should be driven by credible research rather than assumptions or short-term political considerations.
He noted that countries which consistently invest in research and innovation are better positioned to improve healthcare, agriculture, education, technology, environmental management, and economic competitiveness.
According to him, universities, research institutions, government agencies, and the private sector must strengthen collaboration to ensure research findings are translated into practical policies and business solutions that directly benefit society.
Dr. Dzoboku further encouraged young researchers to focus on addressing real-world challenges facing communities, saying their innovations have the potential to transform industries, create jobs, and improve livelihoods.
He also called for increased public and private investment in research funding, arguing that Ghana cannot fully achieve its industrialization and digital transformation ambitions without a strong culture of innovation and scientific inquiry.
Participants at the conference echoed the need for stronger partnerships between academia and industry, emphasizing that research-driven decision-making remains essential for building a resilient and competitive economy.
Dr. Dzoboku concluded by urging policymakers to make greater use of local research findings in national planning, saying Ghana possesses enormous intellectual capacity capable of driving sustainable development when adequately supported.
