Officials from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) and the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) have conducted a joint inspection of the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern Cardiology Centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The inspection was led by the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Mrs. Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, alongside management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The team toured the project site to assess the level of progress and ensure the facility remains on schedule for completion by the end of August 2026.
Contractors working on the project assured the delegation that despite the demanding pace of work, significant progress has been made, and they are working around the clock to meet the August deadline.
Speaking after the inspection, Mrs. Darko-Opoku expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and commended the contractors for their commitment and professionalism. She described the Cardiology Centre as a transformative investment in healthcare that will bring world-class cardiac care closer to the people of Northern Ghana.
“When completed, this facility will serve as a major referral hub for advanced heart care, significantly reducing the need for patients in the Northern sector to travel to Accra or Kumasi for specialized cardiac diagnosis and treatment,” she noted.
The Tamale Cardiology Centre is expected to provide comprehensive cardiovascular services, including advanced diagnostic procedures, interventional cardiology, and specialized treatment. It forms part of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s broader initiative to expand access to specialist healthcare across the country.
The project has generated high expectations among residents in the Northern Region, who have long struggled with limited access to quality cardiac care.
