Iran has vowed to deliver a “crushing response” following a fresh wave of U.S. military strikes, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between the two countries and raising fears of a wider conflict across the Middle East.
In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the country’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters condemned the attacks, describing them as an act of aggression and warning that Tehran would respond “without the slightest hesitation.” Iranian military officials insisted that the country would defend its sovereignty against any further military action.
The latest U.S. strikes reportedly targeted military facilities and air defence systems in southern Iran after Washington accused Tehran of carrying out attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. U.S. officials said the operation was intended to deter further attacks and protect international maritime security.
Iran rejected the U.S. justification, accusing Washington of violating previous understandings aimed at reducing hostilities. Iranian leaders warned that continued military pressure would be met with decisive retaliation and vowed not to allow foreign interference in the country’s affairs.
The exchange has heightened concerns among the international community, with several governments urging both sides to exercise restraint to prevent the conflict from spreading across the Gulf region. Analysts warn that any prolonged confrontation could disrupt global energy supplies and further destabilize an already volatile Middle East.
The United States has maintained that its actions are defensive and aimed at protecting its personnel and international shipping, while Iran insists it reserves the right to respond to what it calls repeated violations of its sovereignty. Diplomatic efforts to restore calm remain uncertain as both sides continue to exchange strong warnings.
