The Black Stars are unlikely to play another friendly match before their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.
Reports had suggested Ghana could face either Jamaica or Honduras in a final warm-up match ahead of the tournament. However, negotiations for both fixtures reportedly fell through, leaving the Black Stars with no confirmed friendly on the schedule.
Speaking on the matter, Asante Twum revealed that there is currently “nothing on paper” regarding an additional preparatory game. While he did not completely rule out the possibility of a late-arranged fixture, he indicated that it appears highly unlikely at this stage.
Ghana’s only pre-World Cup friendly ended in a 1-1 draw against Wales, a match that also marked the debut of new head coach Carlos Queiroz. Caleb Yirenkyi scored for the Black Stars before Wales equalized in stoppage time.
The squad is currently training in the United States as preparations intensify for the tournament. The Black Stars are expected to move to their official base camp before traveling to Toronto for their opening Group L encounter against Panama on June 17. Ghana will then face England and Croatia in what is considered one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.
Despite the absence of another friendly, the technical team appears focused on fine-tuning tactics and building team chemistry through training sessions as Ghana seeks a strong start to its fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
