Ghana Can Become First African Nation to Win the World Cup – Akuapem South MP

ember of Parliament for Akuapem South, Lawrencia Dziwornu, has expressed strong confidence in the Black Stars, declaring that Ghana has the potential to become the first African country to win the FIFA World Cup.

Speaking ahead of Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the legislator urged Ghanaians to rally behind the national team, insisting that the country’s football history and achievements demonstrate that such a feat is achievable.

“I firmly believe that Ghana will one day become the first African country to win the FIFA World Cup,” she stated, calling on citizens to unite in support of the Black Stars as they seek success on football’s biggest stage.

According to Dziwornu, Ghana’s impressive record in international football, including multiple FIFA World Cup appearances and successes at youth level, provides evidence of the nation’s ability to compete with the world’s best teams. She noted that Ghana’s achievements in global competitions have consistently shown the country’s footballing talent and resilience.

The MP highlighted memorable moments in Ghana’s football history, including the Black Stars’ quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, the furthest any Ghanaian senior national team has gone at the tournament. She also pointed to Ghana’s success at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the country became the first African nation to win the competition in 2009.

Her remarks come as excitement builds across the country for the ongoing World Cup, with fans hopeful that the Black Stars can make a deep run in the tournament and further cement Ghana’s reputation as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.

Football supporters have welcomed the optimistic message, with many agreeing that African nations are increasingly capable of challenging traditional football giants on the global stage.

As the tournament unfolds, Ghanaians will be hoping that the Black Stars can take another step toward turning that ambitious dream into reality.
