Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaian citizens returning from South Africa that government efforts to support their reintegration are already yielding results, with job opportunities being secured for those affected by the recent xenophobic attacks.
Addressing returnees at the Accra International Airport, Mr. Ablakwa revealed that a number of Ghanaian business leaders have responded positively to the government’s call for support.
“We have already secured commitments from CEOs willing to offer jobs to returnees,” the Minister stated.
The assurance comes as Ghana continues to receive citizens who voluntarily chose to return home following reports of violence and intimidation targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.
According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the government’s response extends beyond evacuation efforts and includes measures aimed at helping returnees rebuild their lives through employment, skills development, and social support programs.
Mr. Ablakwa commended Ghanaian entrepreneurs and corporate leaders for demonstrating patriotism and solidarity during the crisis, noting that their support would play a critical role in ensuring a smooth transition for affected citizens.
The government has also indicated that additional partnerships are being explored to create more employment opportunities for returnees as the reintegration exercise continues.
The latest developments have been welcomed by many of the evacuees, who expressed gratitude for the support being offered upon their arrival in Ghana after what many described as a difficult and uncertain period abroad.
Government officials say efforts will continue to ensure that every returning Ghanaian has access to the assistance needed to successfully reintegrate into society.
NewsNest Ghana will continue to monitor developments surrounding the repatriation and reintegration of Ghanaian citizens returning from South Africa.
