Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu has called for a comprehensive investigation into the tragic death of a University of Cape Coast (UCC) student whose body was discovered on a beach in Cape Coast. The directive comes amid growing public concern and calls for answers surrounding the circumstances of the student’s death.
The deceased, identified as Innocentia Avinu, a 20-year-old Level 200 Bachelor of Commerce student, had reportedly been declared missing before her body was discovered along the shoreline near the university community. The discovery has left students, staff, family members, and residents in shock.
In a statement issued through the Ministry of Education, Haruna Iddrisu expressed deep sorrow over the incident and directed university authorities to work closely with the Ghana Police Service to ensure a full, transparent, and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Preliminary reports indicate that the student was last seen after reportedly leaving her hostel.
