Fidelity Bank Ghana has pledged its support to the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a donation of GH¢1 million, reinforcing national efforts to ensure the team’s successful participation in football’s biggest tournament.

The donation was presented by Julian Opuni, Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, to Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, during a brief ceremony in Accra.

The contribution forms part of the Black Stars World Cup Fund, an initiative aimed at mobilizing support from corporate Ghana and the wider public to assist the national team’s preparations and participation in the global tournament.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Opuni emphasized the bank’s commitment to national development and unity, stating that supporting the Black Stars goes beyond football and represents an investment in national pride and collective aspiration.

He noted that major institutions have a responsibility to contribute to causes that inspire Ghanaians and bring the nation together, particularly during significant international events such as the FIFA World Cup.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the government, Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank for the gesture, describing it as a demonstration of patriotism and confidence in the national team.

The minister encouraged other corporate organizations and stakeholders to emulate the bank’s example by contributing to initiatives that strengthen Ghanaian sports and enhance the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.

The donation comes as excitement continues to build around Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars have been intensifying preparations for the tournament, with supporters across the country hoping for a strong performance against some of the world’s top footballing nations.

Sports analysts believe corporate support will play an important role in boosting morale and providing additional resources for preparations, logistics, and fan engagement activities surrounding the tournament.

The announcement has been welcomed by football supporters, many of whom view the donation as a positive signal of national backing for the team ahead of its World Cup campaign.

As Ghana seeks to make a significant impact on the world stage, the GH¢1 million contribution highlights the growing partnership between the private sector and sports development, demonstrating how businesses can contribute to national success beyond their traditional commercial activities.

With the World Cup now underway, attention remains firmly focused on the Black Stars as they look to make the nation proud and build on Ghana’s rich football heritage.
