A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Kay, has declared that the opposition party will not be intimidated by what it describes as increasing pressure on its members, stating that even the arrest of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia would not weaken the party’s resolve.
Speaking during a media interview amid ongoing controversies surrounding investigations involving some NPP officials, Nana Kay alleged that attempts were being made to intimidate the party through state institutions. He insisted that the NPP remains committed to defending democratic principles and the rule of law.
“Even if they arrest Bawumia, it will not intimidate us,” Nana Kay said, emphasizing that the party would continue to stand by its members and challenge what it considers unfair treatment.
His remarks come in the wake of heightened political tensions following the arrest of the NPP’s Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). The incident prompted party executives, Members of Parliament and supporters to march to EOCO’s headquarters to demand his release.
Nana Kay maintained that the NPP would continue to pursue lawful means to protect the rights of its members while urging supporters to remain calm and united.
The comments have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters describing them as a show of resilience, while critics argue that ongoing investigations should be allowed to proceed without political interference.
Neither Dr. Bawumia nor the NPP has indicated that the former Vice President is currently under investigation. Nana Kay’s remarks were made in the context of expressing the party’s determination not to be intimidated by actions against its members.
