Plan International Ghana Strengthens Advocacy for Menstrual Health and Gender Equality

Plan International Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing menstrual health, hygiene education, and gender equality as part of efforts to empower girls and promote inclusive development.

The organization emphasized the importance of ensuring that girls and young women have access to menstrual hygiene products, accurate health information, and safe environments that enable them to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement, representatives of Plan International Ghana highlighted the challenges many girls continue to face, including stigma, misinformation, and limited access to menstrual hygiene resources.

The organization stressed that addressing menstrual health is not only a health issue but also a matter of education, human rights, and gender equality.

According to Plan International Ghana, improving menstrual health can help reduce school absenteeism among girls, boost self-confidence, and support educational achievement.

The organization also called on policymakers, schools, parents, and community leaders to work together to eliminate discrimination and harmful cultural misconceptions surrounding menstruation.

Advocates at the event noted that achieving gender equality requires creating opportunities for girls to participate fully in education, leadership, and community life without barriers linked to menstrual health challenges.

Plan International Ghana pledged to continue supporting programmes that promote menstrual hygiene management, youth empowerment, and equal opportunities for girls across the country.

Stakeholders described the initiative as an important step toward building a more inclusive society where every girl can reach her full potential.
