Former Information Minister Kofi Totobi Quakye has called on members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Ghanaians at large to actively uphold the values and principles of former President Jerry John Rawlings rather than simply praising his legacy.
Speaking at an event commemorating the late statesman, Totobi Quakye stressed that Rawlings’ legacy should be measured not by speeches and tributes alone, but by the commitment of leaders and citizens to the principles he championed.
According to him, the former President dedicated much of his public life to promoting accountability, discipline, integrity, social justice, and national development.
He urged political leaders to demonstrate these values through their actions and decisions, arguing that Ghana’s development depends on leaders who place public interest above personal and partisan considerations.
Totobi Quakye further challenged the governing NDC to ensure that its policies and program reflect the ideals upon which the party was founded, including transparency, good governance, and service to ordinary citizens.
He noted that preserving Rawlings’ legacy requires practical action that improves the lives of Ghanaians and strengthens public confidence in leadership and institutions.
Participants at the event reflected on the impact of Rawlings’ leadership on Ghana’s democratic development and called for renewed efforts to promote national unity and accountability.
Political analysts say the remarks are likely to resonate within the NDC and among supporters of the late President, whose influence continues to shape political discourse years after his passing.
The event formed part of activities marking the legacy of Jerry John Rawlings and celebrating his contributions to Ghana’s political history.
