The Kwadaso Circuit Court has sentenced a 37-year-old mechanic, Collins Adu, to seven years in prison for defiling a 16-year-old girl at Kronom in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to court proceedings, the incident occurred on April 9, 2025, when the victim was on her way to her grandfather’s vulcanising shop. The convict allegedly lured the girl into his room, engaged in sexual intercourse with her, and gave her GH¢10 afterwards.
The victim returned home and, upon being questioned by her guardian about her whereabouts, narrated the ordeal. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the police station, leading to the arrest of Collins Adu.
Delivering her judgment, the presiding judge found Collins Adu guilty of the offence of defilement and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment with hard labour.
The case was prosecuted by the police, while the convict was represented by a counsel.
This judgment has been welcomed by child protection advocates, who continue to call for stiffer penalties to serve as a deterrent against sexual offences involving minors.
