According to psychologists and productivity experts, more people are shifting away from ambitious New Year resolutions toward building tiny, sustainable “micro-habits” — and the results are impressive.
A recent study by the University of Cambridge found that people who adopted small daily habits (such as drinking one extra glass of water, walking 5 minutes after meals, or practicing 2-minute gratitude journaling) were 73% more likely to maintain them after six months compared to those who set big goals.
Popular Micro-Habits Trending in 2026:
The “2-Minute Rule” – Starting any new habit by doing it for just two minutes
One-touch tidying – Putting items away immediately instead of letting them pile up
Phone-free mornings – Avoiding screens for the first 30 minutes after waking
Life coach and author Ama Mensah says:
“Big goals create pressure. Micro-habits create momentum. People are realizing that consistency beats intensity.”
Experts recommend starting with just one or two micro-habits instead of trying to overhaul your entire life at once.
