“If You’re Tired, Leave Office for Someone Ready to Lead” – Sammy Awuku

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Executive member Sammy Awuku has called on public office holders and political leaders to willingly step aside when they are no longer capable of effectively serving the people.

Speaking during a public engagement, Awuku argued that leadership is a responsibility that requires energy, commitment, and vision, stressing that individuals who have become exhausted or are unable to meet the demands of public office should make way for others prepared to lead.

“If you’re tired, leave office for someone ready to lead,” he stated, emphasizing that leadership should never become a personal entitlement but rather an opportunity to serve citizens with dedication and competence.

According to him, Ghana’s democratic system depends on capable leadership that is responsive to the needs of the people and focused on delivering results rather than merely occupying positions of authority.

Awuku further noted that effective governance requires continuous innovation, fresh ideas, and leaders who possess the energy to address the country’s economic, social, and developmental challenges.

His comments have generated discussion within political circles, with some observers interpreting the remarks as a broader appeal for accountability and renewal in Ghanaian politics, while others view them as part of ongoing debates surrounding leadership within political parties.

Political analysts say the statement reflects growing public expectations for leaders to demonstrate performance, transparency, and commitment rather than remaining in office based solely on seniority or political influence.

The remarks come at a time when discussions about political succession, party reforms, and leadership renewal continue to dominate Ghana’s political landscape ahead of future national elections.

Observers believe Awuku’s comments will likely fuel further debate about leadership standards and the importance of ensuring that public office remains focused on service delivery and national development.
