The Bechem District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Michael Kolley, has called on candidates, their supporters and delegates to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to hold its constituency executive elections this weekend.
Speaking ahead of the elections scheduled for Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026, ASP Kolley emphasized the need for all stakeholders to uphold peace, respect the electoral process and avoid actions that could disrupt the polls.
He assured party members that the Ghana Police Service has put in place adequate security measures to guarantee the peaceful conduct of the elections across the district.
According to ASP Kolley, security personnel will be deployed to all designated polling centres to maintain law and order, protect delegates and election officials, and respond swiftly to any incidents that may arise during the exercise.
He urged candidates and their supporters to campaign and celebrate responsibly, reminding them that the elections are an internal democratic process aimed at strengthening the party ahead of future national political activities.
The Police Commander also encouraged delegates to cooperate with security officers and election officials by adhering to all electoral guidelines and reporting any suspicious or unlawful activities through the appropriate channels.
He warned that the Police would not hesitate to deal firmly with anyone found engaging in acts of violence, intimidation, disorderly conduct or any other activity capable of undermining the peaceful atmosphere of the elections.
Party officials have also appealed to contestants to accept the outcome of the polls in good faith and resolve any grievances through the party’s established dispute resolution mechanisms.
The NPP’s constituency executive elections form part of the party’s nationwide reorganisation exercise to elect new grassroots leaders who will steer constituency affairs and strengthen the party’s structures ahead of upcoming political contests.
Authorities remain optimistic that the elections will be conducted peacefully, reinforcing Ghana’s reputation for democratic governance and orderly political processes.
