Consumers Union Trust Society (CUTS International) has identified persistent power outages, erratic water supply and road safety challenges as the leading issues affecting consumers across Ghana.
According to the consumer advocacy organization, the findings emerged from its latest assessment of consumer experiences across key public service sectors, highlighting the need for stronger regulatory oversight and improved service delivery.
CUTS noted that frequent electricity interruptions continue to disrupt businesses, healthcare services and household activities, resulting in financial losses and reduced productivity. The organization called for sustained investment in Ghana’s energy infrastructure to improve reliability.
The report also cited irregular water supply as a major concern, with many communities facing recurring shortages that force residents to rely on alternative and often costly sources of water. CUTS urged water service providers to address infrastructure challenges and ensure equitable access to clean water.
Road safety was identified as another pressing issue, with the organization expressing concern over rising road crashes, poor road conditions and inadequate enforcement of traffic regulations. CUTS called for stricter enforcement of road safety laws, improved road maintenance and increased public education to reduce accidents.
The consumer rights group emphasized that addressing these challenges is essential to improving the quality of life of Ghanaians and boosting confidence in public institutions.
CUTS further urged government agencies, regulators and service providers to work collaboratively to enhance accountability, improve customer service and respond promptly to consumer complaints.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for consumer rights and called on policymakers to prioritize investments in critical public services to ensure reliable electricity, safe drinking water and safer roads for all citizens.
