Accra, Ghana — The Government of Ghana has announced a new employment support initiative aimed at assisting citizens being evacuated from South Africa following recent unrest and security concerns affecting foreign nationals.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that the government has already secured 120 job opportunities for Ghanaians returning home as part of efforts to facilitate their reintegration into society.
In a public appeal, the Minister called on Ghanaian chief executive officers, entrepreneurs, and business leaders to support the initiative by offering employment opportunities to affected returnees. He emphasized that many of those being evacuated possess valuable skills and experience that can contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its Delivery Unit led by Ambassador Alexander Grant Ntrakwa, is coordinating the program and working with private sector partners to match returning citizens with available job openings.
According to the Ministry, the initiative forms part of a broader government response to ensure that evacuees receive not only safe transportation back to Ghana but also opportunities to rebuild their lives and livelihoods upon arrival.
Officials have described the response as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad. The Ministry has encouraged more businesses and organizations to participate in the program, noting that additional job placements will be needed as more evacuees return.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by Ghanaian authorities to assist citizens affected by recent tensions in South Africa, with evacuation and support measures continuing under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
