Interior Ministry Suspends Kantanka Security Services Following Shooting Incident

The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operations of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following a shooting incident involving members of the Kantanka family on Sunday.

According to an official statement, the suspension was issued after preliminary investigations revealed that the private security company had allegedly breached provisions of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571).

The Ministry indicated that the company was found to be in possession of firearms and uniforms that did not comply with regulations governing the operations of private security organizations in Ghana.

Regulatory Violations

Authorities stated that private security companies are required to operate within strict legal frameworks designed to ensure public safety and prevent the unauthorized use of weapons and security equipment.

The alleged violations identified during investigations include the possession and use of firearms without the necessary authorization as well as the use of uniforms that were not prescribed under existing regulations.

The Ministry noted that such breaches raise serious concerns about compliance, accountability, and oversight within the private security industry.

Immediate Suspension

As a result, Kantanka Security Services has been directed to cease all operations pending further investigations and regulatory review.

Officials stressed that the suspension is intended to facilitate ongoing investigations and ensure that all relevant facts surrounding the shooting incident are fully established.

The Ministry further assured the public that appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law once investigations are concluded.

Public Safety Priority

The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that all licensed private security organizations operate within the legal framework established by the state.

Security experts have noted that the incident highlights the importance of regular monitoring and enforcement of regulations governing private security firms, especially in relation to the possession of firearms and security equipment.

Investigations Continue

Law enforcement agencies are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident involving the Kantanka siblings.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.

The Ministry emphasized that it will continue working closely with the Ghana Police Service and other relevant agencies to uphold security standards and protect public safety.

Further updates are expected as investigations progress and additional details emerge regarding the incident and the operations of the suspended security company.
