Supreme Court Judge Outlines New Strategy to Fast-Track Court Cases

A Justice of the Supreme Court has unveiled a new strategy aimed at accelerating the adjudication of cases and reducing the persistent backlog in Ghana’s courts.

Speaking at a judicial engagement, the judge said the initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Judiciary to improve efficiency, ensure timely delivery of justice and strengthen public confidence in the country’s legal system.

According to the judge, the strategy will focus on stricter case management, improved scheduling of hearings and greater use of technology to streamline court processes and minimize unnecessary delays.

The judge emphasized that justice delayed undermines public trust in the judicial system, stressing that courts must resolve disputes within a reasonable timeframe while maintaining fairness and due process.

The initiative is also expected to encourage judges, magistrates and legal practitioners to adhere to timelines and reduce frequent adjournments that often prolong litigation.

Legal experts believe the reforms could significantly improve access to justice, reduce congestion in the courts and lower the cost of litigation for individuals and businesses.

The Judiciary has in recent years introduced several digital innovations, including electronic filing systems and virtual court proceedings, as part of efforts to modernize the administration of justice.

Stakeholders in the legal fraternity have welcomed the proposed measures, describing them as a positive step toward making Ghana’s justice system more efficient, transparent and responsive to the needs of the public.

The Supreme Court judge reiterated the Judiciary’s commitment to continuous reforms that promote the speedy resolution of cases while safeguarding the independence and integrity of the courts.

Observers say the success of the new strategy will depend on effective implementation, adequate resources and the cooperation of all stakeholders within the justice sector.
