Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament and former Gender Minister, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is receiving medical treatment after she was reportedly injured in an alleged shooting incident in Accra on Sunday.
According to multiple media reports, unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire on a vehicle carrying the former legislator near the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, a prominent figure within the Kristo Asafo movement. The incident is reported to have occurred amid heightened tensions surrounding succession disputes within the Kristo Asafo family.
Witnesses reportedly told local media that several rounds of ammunition were discharged during the incident, with one of the bullets allegedly grazing the former MP. Emergency responders and security personnel were said to have arrived at the scene shortly afterward.
Sources close to Adwoa Safo indicate that she was rushed to a medical facility for treatment and is currently in stable condition. However, the full extent of her injuries has not yet been officially disclosed.
The incident has sparked concern among political figures and members of the public, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. Security agencies are expected to examine witness accounts and gather evidence to establish what transpired.
The alleged attack comes at a time when disputes relating to the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission have reportedly generated legal and family disagreements. Some reports suggest the tensions may have contributed to the atmosphere surrounding the incident, although investigators have yet to establish any direct connection.
As of Sunday evening, the Ghana Police Service had not released a comprehensive statement detailing arrests, suspects, or a confirmed motive. Investigations are expected to continue in the coming days.
Adwoa Safo served as Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya from 2013 until 2025 and previously held ministerial positions under the Akufo-Addo administration. The news of the incident has generated widespread reactions across Ghana’s political landscape as supporters await further updates on her condition and the ongoing investigation.
