Several Feared Trapped After Building Collapse at Adenta New Site

Adenta, Greater Accra Region – A multi-storey building reportedly collapsed at Adenta New Site on Tuesday, sparking fears that several people may be trapped beneath the rubble.

According to eyewitness accounts, the structure, said to be approximately 15 storeys high, suddenly gave way, sending debris crashing onto the surrounding area and triggering panic among residents and workers nearby.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), police officers, and medical personnel, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Rescue operations continued for several hours as authorities worked to locate and extract individuals believed to be trapped.

While the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, reports indicate that multiple injuries have been recorded, with fears that fatalities may also have occurred. Ambulances were seen transporting victims to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Residents gathered around the scene expressed shock at the collapse, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the cause of the disaster. Some witnesses alleged that construction work had been ongoing at the site prior to the incident.

Authorities have cordoned off the area and urged the public to stay away to allow rescue teams to carry out their work safely. Structural engineers and investigators are expected to assess the site to determine the cause of the collapse.
